A romantic park, dream of a lifetime...
A young medical student, Pierre-Joseph Lafosse (1828-1897), began this monumental work, which lasted his entire life, in his 22nd year.
Diverting the course of the Douve, a nearby river, it creates networks of canals and bodies of water, dotted with islands accessible by footbridges or by boat.
In this park covering about 2ha, he then develops caves and caves, an exotic garden overlooking a tower offering panoramic views of the park. He planted plants with exoticism: palms, ferns, conifers, bamboos, which still survive today, more than a century and a half later. A striking 19th century fragrance.
Living garden, pursuit of the dream...
Maintaining a garden that is both romantic and exotic, and also original of this scale with few means, today in the 19th century, requires an approach respectful of the environment and biodiversity in place for decades...
Lucy and Richard (2008 to 2013), then Bastien (2013 to 2018), Andre and Silvia from now, set out to continue Pierre-Joseph Lafosse's original project by recreating harmonious biodiversity while respecting the aesthetic choices and requirements of the place. The spirit of the garden must be preserved; creations, redevelopments, and clearings are carried out in accordance with the original plan. To grow the garden while following the pre-established current avoiding the imaginative nonsense induced by the fact that it was indeed another time, another time...
